A$AP Rocky Acquitted: Rihanna Moved to Tears
A$AP Rocky has been found not guilty, and Rihanna couldn’t hold back her emotions as the verdict was read.
The 36-year-old rapper was acquitted of all charges on Tuesday by a Los Angeles jury, ending a high-profile felony assault trial that could have resulted in a 24-year prison sentence.
As the jury delivered its unanimous verdict after three hours of deliberation, Rihanna—Rocky’s longtime partner—was visibly emotional. Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, immediately embraced her, relieved and grateful for the decision.
“Thanks y’all for saving my life,” he told the jury of seven women and five men as he exited the courtroom, according to the Associated Press.
Rocky had been charged with two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Prosecutors pushed for a conviction, but jurors ultimately found reasonable doubt in their case.
Before the trial, the rapper declined a plea deal that would have required him to serve six months in jail. Instead, he chose to fight the charges, confident in his innocence and the jury’s judgment.
Throughout the trial, Rihanna stood by his side, often attending proceedings with their two young sons—2-year-old RZA Athelston Mayers and 1-year-old Riot Rose Mayers. She even brought them along for some of the closing arguments.
Now, with the case behind them, the couple can finally move forward, focusing on their family and future.
